Why This Site Exists
Alabama public-records law makes many government records open for inspection, but Macon County does not publish one official online jail roster in the research used for this project. A local arrest may involve the Macon County Sheriff's Office, Macon County Jail, Macon Circuit Clerk records on Alacourt, or later transfer to the Alabama Department of Corrections. Federal and immigration custody use still other systems. This site organizes those sources so a reader can start with the right office instead of treating every inmate search as the same kind of record.
